Back Bay Youth Rugby was established in the fall of 2004 with a few young kids that were interested in playing the sport of rugby. Our first practice we had 7 players. By our first match we had 14 players and played a player down. Since that first game, a Back Bay victory, we have grown from a 14 player team, to a 50 player High School team that has competed in the Southern California High School Championships, since 2006,and went to the National High School Championships, placing third in our division. We are always striving to get our players to the next level, and have placed two players on the USA Under 19 National team, where they compete for their country.

We are now competing in all youth divisions in Southern California from High School boys and girls, all the way down to touch rugby at ages 6 through 10.We draw players from Costa Mesa , Newport Beach , Huntington Beach , Irvine , Santa Ana , Westminister, and surrounding areas.

We have 12 coaches on staff to overlook and teach these young players to become the best that they can be. Many of our coaches have competed at high levels of rugby in Austraila,New Zealand,England,Wales,and more importantly, for the USA Eagles.

Rugby is one of the fastest growing youth sports in the USA , and we are very glad to be a part of this youth movement. Age Eligibility:

For the 2008 youth rugby season ages are determinded by the age of player was on Sept. 1st 2007.

Under 8 on Sept. 1st 2007 = U8

Under 10 on Sept. 1st 2007 = U10

Under 12 on Sept. 1st 2007 = U12

Under 14 on Sept. 1st 2007 = U14

Under 16 on Sept. 1st 2007 = U16

High School Boys - Under 19 on Sept. 1st 2007 and enrolled in a Southern California
high school full time.***may be home schooled.

Under 19 on Sept. 1st = U19 girls

U12 Contact Rugby:
 U12 rugby introduces tackling with teams playing rugby with 7 players.

U14 Contact Rugby:
 U14 develops the scrum and lineout in modified 10 a side rugby. For 2007 only we have a U15 Girls age group who lay with 7 players on the field.

U16 Contact Rugby:
 U16 further develops tackle rugby and plays 12 a side rugby. 15 a side can be played if both coaches agree.

HS Boys and HS Girls Rugby:
 HS Boys and HS Girls play full 15 a side rugby.

Someone Cares Soup kitchen gift wrapping event:
We would like to thank everyone who helped out in the gift wrapping event.
We were able to wrap around 500 gifts in just over an hour and a half !!
